I was sent a picture by the person who gave me the cuttings and you are right. It's Gigantica. It looks like it got too much sun to me. It already had roots on it so I planted it in we'll draining soil. Do you think I should cut it back to the green parts? Thanks.

Yes bloom confirms it. It is S. gigantea (not gigantica).
You do not need to cut off the parts that are not green -unless you don't like the look of it. Parts that are dead will turn hard & can be removed. If mushy, indicating rot, should be cut off.
