Cleaning knife/pruner before and after using it

I have to ask again..

I have read that we need to clean our knife or pruners before doing some cuttings. What should I use to clean them? Alcohol, running water and soap??
I bought a Fiskars Bypass Pruner and it is oily or lubricated ( I am not sure). Should I clean it before I use it or leave it that way and just use it?

I use rubbing alcohol. I normally use a scalpel when I prune. A utility knife also.
