Cactus help

My cactus had maybe 5 dozen little babie cacti at once, I gently pulled them all off and replanted them. However on my main plant, the cactus its very damaged and unattractive. Its been about 3 months and it has not healed itself yet. Should I maybe cut off above that portion and propagate it? But I don't want to risk losing the plant. It's about 105 degrees every day so I don't want it to not be able to stand the heat.
