I keep all my epis hanging underneath my oak tree. They get filtered sun for about 4 hours a day, but mainly stay shaded.

They love water. Its been raining a lot here in the south, and I just let the rain take care of everything. Its crucial to have a fast draining organic mix though. If you plan on keeping them indoors I'd say water them about once a week. Mine are outside in 90% humidity and 90 degree weather so they require more frequent waterings.

Most epis need a dormant period in the winter. I keep mine in the garage where it stays about 40-50 degrees. I water once a month during this time. No sunlight either in the dormant period.

What kind of epi did you get?

I too love epis. I have a noid that I'm hoping blooms this year. It is 3 yrs old. Plus just bought a new one yesterday. I would love to see a photo of yours!!

Oh, you've caught the epi bug now...
I have about 20, and the biggest problem is how big they can get. Otherwise I'd have even more.
I mix orchid mix in with cacti mix for mine.

Ah, yep the rose queen is a beautiful Orchid cactus. You should have no problems if you follow the advice I gave. Be sure to fertilize monthly as well during the growing season.

I'm too anal to have a lot of epis. ;-)
I have one in my shade house and it is all over the place. I can't walk in w/o ducking or moving it. My ackermanii is better behaved. Both bloom so I'm good with that!
