Moon cactus (Gymnocalycium mihanovichii)

For my first try with cacti, I decided these looked very cute in the store. I bought three different colors and I was wondering if the little spiked balls protruding from the "head" could be used to propagate the plant.
Then I did the research (should have done it before, I know) and found out that itôs a graft and the color part will die for lack of chlorophyll. What???
Is there anything I can do to propagate these cute cacti? I also bought a Thimble cactus and I was planning to do a small cacti pot full of color and shapes. Any input as to care and propagation (if at all possible) will be greatly appreciated!!
