Epi cutting problem

zorb22

I was given 4 hybrid epiphyllum cuttings which I put pots about 5 weeks ago. I haven't watered them since, but have been misting them. None of them have developed any roots below the soil line, but two of the stems have developed (roots? new stems?) along the spine at the top of the stem. I have never grown epis, so I know little about them. I'm wondering what this new growth is (see photo), and what I should do from here. They're in a mixture of orchid bark, perlite, and potting mix.
