Dudleya nesiotica in natural habitat

We had the pleasure of visiting Santa Cruz Island for my wife's birthday yesterday. We explored the hiking trails, soaking in the sights which included many beautiful Dudleyas and another odd succulent I had never seen anywhere.

Most of the Dudleyas were either near the cliffsides or clinging to them.

The odd plant had sealed water beads all over the stems which would break at the slightest touch. The water left behind smelled like the ocean. I've not been able to identify it.

Enjoy!
