Have I separated grafted cacti enough?

Hi all,

I wrote in some months back about a grafted cacti that I purchased and want to separate and root. It's grafted on a hylocereus, but I'm not too sure what the top is (maybe rebutia?). Anyway, I've finally gotten around to severing the top from the hylo, but am not sure if I've cut enough off. I would like to root the top :)

The first slices you can see the triangular part of the hylo, but subsequent slices show a round core. Wish I could post pics, but can't. Have I sliced enough off and removed all of the hylo, or should I take more? I reckon 1/2 inch has been take off, but that core is still there. Would the 'rebutia' have a round core of it's own?

Your thoughts would be appreciated!
