Propagation: Pink Roots vs. White Roots?

I am propagating succulent leaves (a variety of types) atop of soil (equal parts MG C&S soil + pumice).

I have had a couple failed batches prior, but using the above medium + leaving indoors + watering infrequently (very very light mist every week) has seemed to work for me.

The majority of my leaves have started showing roots. Yay! But, they are white instead of pink. Even with the white roots, baby plants are starting to form. Double yay!

Question: Any idea why my new roots are white instead of the usual bright pink?

This forum stated that roots are roots no matter what, so not to be alarmed. http://cactiguide.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=30156

I'm still curious.

Thanks, all.
