Watering succulents outdoors

Hey guys,
So my interest in succulents has been piqued and I bought several potted ones to put on my front porch area. Most are doing fine, but two of them had some rot at the base of the plant. I think they got too much water a few weeks ago when it was raining daily.

I cut the rotted part off and pulled the roots out and put the rest back in the soil--they already had some aerial type roots on the living part any way.

Any way, my question is on watering frequency. The porch area gets direct southern sun most of the afternoon. It gets SUPER hot out there for several hours. How often should I water succulents that are exposed to heat like this? More often than indoor plants? They are all in non-glazed clay pots with a very porous well draining mix I made myself. Thanks!
