I'm curious what the purpose of hybridizing with this species might be. Are enthusiasts trying to incorporate its curious growing habit into something with more attractive foliage or something maybe?

We have many plants that are hybridized. Some produce better crops, some are hardier, some look nicer. In my yard it is because the darned bees don't know to stay on one plant at a time! LOL
