Most succulents have shallow roots, so deep watering doesn't help much. The marine influence in zone 24 is going to be the biggest help for planting in summer.

In order to figure out watering, you need to know how much water your system lays down per minute, precipitation rate, and how much water you need, percentage of ET0. Or do what most people do and figure it out through trial and error. The link below is a great source for irrigation information in California.

As long as the plants have been hardened off to full sun, they should be okay. Keep checking them for decline or stress, but 24 is so forgiving.

thanks! I just realized I'm sunset zone 22. This house is inland more. Gets kinda hot and dry, but I think I should still be ok.

When you first plant succulents in soil, do you not want to over water them, just as you would when you plant succulents first in a pot?

Give them a day in place then water. Growing in the ground is so much easier than in pots.

next time you plan on planting those species, you normally don't have to spend so much on DG... I have grown all those in very clayey soils in inland Los Angeles for dozens of years and they all do very well (maybe a bit of gypsum or scoria dug in to it). You don't have anything on your list that needs the DG to do well, and now you will have to water a lot more often.
