| While I like my jades, I don't think of them as anything special... so I trust this won't upset anyone. Over the years I've generated so many new plants that I now pitch the cuttings except this year I cut back my Silver Dollar and potted up the cutting. Not sure what I will do with them 'cuz I really don't have the room in the greenhouse! Anyway, here are some of my jades.... Earlier this year I whacked my big boy and it is slowly growing back. |
|
| Meyermike, what a nice collection of variegated jades. I never get sick of looking at those. Here's a couple of mine: One that's just starting to leaf out again: And one of my Hummels that is not so impressive looking right now: Bikerdoc, that's a great C. arborescens! Like those bushy gollum jades, too. Jeff |

| Great pictures everyone. Keep them coming, I will try to take some pictures this weekend and post in here. Now that the heatwave has died down here all of my Jades are starting to color up and grow again. I think the summer heat has been pretty brutal everywhere in the USA. |

| Nice plants and pots, Wes! That Haworthia looks clean and pristine! One minor note - you have there a Crassula ovata 'Hobbit.' The variegated P. afra is sweet. Josh |
|
| One minor note - you have there a Crassula ovata 'Hobbit.' Opps right you are Josh RE: Your dragon fruit from seed has 1) To many sides to be a 2) more upright woddy in growing habit dragon fruit. I'm not confirming pic to be a Selenicereus testudo. Yours looks great but is a bit small to rule S. Testudo out. S.Testudo would still short time flower in a milder fragrant white than the more common GW NBC. If pollinated flowering could produce a more juicy, smaller in size but still a tasty type of dragon fruit that is peeled before eating.

| Wes, "Dragon fruit" and "Pitaya" are common names that refer to several different plants ;-) I've been all over the internet asking folks to ID my Dragon fruit, but so far everyone says Out of curiosity, why do you say my Dragon fruit has too many sides??? It has 3-sides to the branches. I am excited to eventually learn what it might be :-)

They are looking very nice:-) Doug, I was hoping you would post some of yours this time of the year. You to Ben! Your jades are wonderful and unique! As Josh said, great pictures. Ben, I love the very new types you have. Looks like I have my work cut out for me. I just have to add those to my collection.:-) Superb. Mine has colored up dramatically in the past week. | they are all very nice I just bought a jade it looks like one of these you call weeping I was really looking for the small leave one but they just don't send them where I am at. I would love to have a tall woody looking tree one I know it takes time to grow but they are so beautiful oh when I saw the one that was pruned I could have died I do not think I could do that I know you make cuttings from them all but it would be so hard. Congratulations to you all and wish me luck with this one I never had a good knowledge on what to plant them in you all look like yours are in small rocks or sand. this one is in soil should I change it to something else that would be a better growing medium than the soil.? |
|
| Finally did get a 'Hummel's Sunset' a couple months ago, and split it into two plants. It's gonna fall short of most everyone else's color, but still pretty pretty.
I do think the camera almost sucks the yellow hues out of the shots sometimes. + the smaller 'Tricolor' finally growing...should get some other variegates for some variety!

| No worries Teatree! Your jades are still beautiful and what a great idea about splitting them. We get such a short window span of oppurtunity to get color on our jades in these parts. If there is more cloudy days than sunny by the end of summer, which it usually is in these parts, the revert back to green comes even before I see bright colors. Josh! Wow, your jades have been busy these days try to put on a show for you. Very nice buddy! The colors are coming in real nice. I in particular LOVE the little yellow one at the top:-) Mike |

| Josh sorry to hear about those damn raccoons. one good thing about succulents is that they are so tough. hopefully there was no serious damage. Doug |
|
- Posted by greenman28 NorCal 7b/8a (My Page) on Sat, Oct 13, 12 at 15:05
| Thanks, Doug. No serious damage...just a few broken bits and one seriously bent Jade that I'll have to stake up now. Mostly it amounted to re-filling a bunch of containers with mix. Such a mess, and a waste of costly potting ingredients, too. Josh |
|
- Posted by meyermike_1micha 5 (mikerno_1@yahoo.com) on Sat, Oct 13, 12 at 17:35
| Josh, I am so sorry Pal! I hate those critters. They are so destructive. I hope you can get that one to grow straight again and I am so glad it didn't destroy your collection. They are worst than cats. How do you rid of that problem? Good luck man. Ttyl. Mike |
|
| This is how I keep racoons away: fill some dishes/containers with undiluted Pine Sol. They hate smell of it...I got so desperate once that i splashed half of bottle over the garage roof (they tried to use it as a bathroom...). It definitely works, only problem is you have to refill if it rains. Everybody I told about it used this and have results. My neighbours were waiting for them to show up & spray suddenly with hose, but PineSol works for them too. Rina |

| Thanks, Mike and Rina. I set up my trap last night...the bait was gone, but no raccoon in the trap.... no more plant damage, though. Josh |
|
- Posted by meyermike_1micha 5 (mikerno_1@yahoo.com) on Sun, Oct 14, 12 at 14:47
| Josh, sometimes you just need to feed the detructive bugger to divert its attention away from your precious babies and possibly even like ya.:-) By the way, don't ever use 'bonemeal' if you have that stuff. I once had a Raccoon party where they didn't leave one bulb plant behind for me in my yard and knocked down all my succulents in the process. Rina, that's a first. I shall have to try that if I ever have the same problem again. Mike |
|
| Mike Don't know about skunks; maybe worth trying with Pine sol? Who knows, maybe they don't like the smell too...Rina |

| Hello all, Thanks allot for the pine-sol tip. I'll have to try this. I hope it works for ground hogs too. I have tried music to keep raccoons away. My son keeps shutting the radio off. They sell those hi-freq. noise makers but can't tell if they are on. Can't tell if they work. I have heard that raccoons hate noise and loves quite. But I guess all animals adapt. New to jades and just starting my collection out. If you had to limit your collection to just a few, which would you own? So far I can't find those colorful ones above. Stush |

Ben, You grow some pretty different varieties from most of us here in the States...Wonderful plants you have there... Laura, Nice to see you on the other side, hope you visit more often. That 'Rubra' cutting was sent from a nice lady in California quite a while ago. How are your Plumies adapting to being indoors? Or are they still outside? Christopher |

Stush, come the spring, I will have a few to share with you. I am going to start rooting several once they come in under lights. Josh, what's up?-) Here are pics I took today of the same plants. Boy, I didn't think the sun could do anything for them this time of the year. It must because I have them in a sunny window sill and on the roof. It's get cold by night, then nice and warm by day with more than one sunny day lately.

| I thought this was the perfect pot for my gollum. It's currently in a south facing window behind a sheer curtain and seems to be happy there |

| Sorry-I don't know how to put in multiple pictures without using Photo-bucket. Here is one of my Hummel's that is currently getting a lot of moring sun in the sunroom. Lots of red, not much yellow this time of year. |

| No, it's not bad that you don't like Jades.... but it certainly demonstrates a lack of tact on your part to express that opinion here in a Thread where Jade enthusiasts have gathered to delight in these plants. I wish I could say it's just your young age...but there are members many, many times your age who display a similar lack of tact when it comes to these plants. Time was, a person didn't have a nice thing to say, that person didn't say anything at all. Noto, none of us can post multiple images without photobucket or other image-hosting service. That's how we do it. Christopher, in that second shot, I like how metallic the underside of the leaves look.

| There are succulent plants I don't care for either I choose not to use it as an excuse to distract me away from leaning something about it. Even if in the event of later interest or direct the more enthusiastic then me person to someone who can assist them for better results. You don't have to have grow or own a Jade to like them at least try to think something positive ( respect) for the person(s) who does. On a Joe Q. Public forum it helps to be a little less biased on an opinion and maybe even be nice. You never know what help any person on here may offer you on a wide array of different plant as well.

| Thanks Josh: I have used PB to post multiple pictures, but it seems like it takes forever and I had a lot of repotting to do. :-) But at least now I know that using a photo site is the only way to do it. |

| To be clear about Photobucket. Several months ago, to "improve" the Photobucket website experience, they changed things so now it is near impossible to upload several pictures at a time. Rosemarie was working on it but I haven't anything from her. So for now you have to go back and forth to post each link you want to list in a single post. |

| Wes, I understand all that you've written, and thanks. Past versions of Photobucket were set up so you could place a check mark on several pictures, scroll to the bottom of the page, click on "get links" which would open and you could select the appropriate link code for the particular forum, i.e., HTML, IMG, etc. Then return to GW and right click in the Message box, select "paste" and you would see the HTML code of the multiple pictures you selected and this would result in viewable pictures when you submitted your posting. Now, in the "New and Improved" Photobucket, this procedure can't be done; you have to go back and forth loading one line of HTML code at a time. I can't imagine why they changed a good thing |

| Josh: Very well said, my friend. Honestly I don't know what's not to like about these plants. But to each his own, I guess. As for my plant, it got all twisted in the crowded window space, and some of the bottom leaves got more exposure to the sun than usual. Christopher |

| Ground breaking update! I am wrong! There is a way. Select "Organize", using the CTRL key select each picture (SHIFT Key if they are all in a row), then select "LINK" lower right corner. This opens a window to select the necessary code. Window yellows and says, "Copied" then return to GW, right click in the message box and paste. You will note that the word "Center" begins and ends the HTML code. Deleting both will align the pictures to the left margin. This is what happens... I know I've posted these pics before. If you want more space between the pictures, locate the "href". Just before this are carets and a lower case "a". Add a line enter to separate between the carats,

| On the Photobucket tip- I have grown completely enamored with their "mobile upload" feature. It's awesome! All you have to do is find the mobile upload # for you account then take all the pix you want on your phone and simply txt them to the #, it's genius really. All the pix get uploaded to your mobile upload album and you can move them/post them till your hearts content from there. Howard, nice work on the bulk upload. It seems Im finding myself more frequently having to tell folks, that may or may not belong to generational groupings of a time further gone by then my own, that their user error is causing the issue and not poor device/programming production. But unfortunately most if them aren't as cool headed or determined as you and give up learning! :) Wes, nice work as well! Good PB tutorial my friend. I oy wish that classic PB would actually work on my phone (apple) or maybe that their app was functional. I think the issue I have with their app is just too many pics, it just can't access them quickly enough for it to be useable, for me at least. |

| Thanks Howard I did try and the added information you suggested and it does work.Always something to learn, teach an old dog new trick, words to this effect. I'm heading to the dog house now. My pic demo plant is so off topic from the topic Colorful Jades I don't know how long I'll be in. |
