over watered plants

I'm finally beginning to see why most of the succulents I buy die immediately after bringing home. I just got 2 more succulents & after bringing them home I removed them from their container to check roots & sure enough, soggy roots. One of them has already dropped 5 leaves.

Do you ever remove them from their pots & take off part of the wet peat that is attached to the root then place them in either perlite or Napa Oil dry until they dry out? I can see they have no chance if I leave them in the pot they came in.
Thanks.
