Very nice plant!

One of my all time favorites. I had a 3' killed in 1998's 28f cold. years later I bought a second that didn't seem to have the good color of the original..and I grew it in sun. To make a long story short...'Rubra' outdoors turns near black in bright shade..too much sun fades it and..even sunburns the trunk.
I now have a near 4' double trunker with many branches,leafs, and nice dark color. And its survived 2007 and this Januarys cold with only light damage it grew out of.
They seem indestructible as pot plants...can do well with much water too. Toss them some fertilizer in summer...just great plants.

Interesting. My Mom seems to have had the opposite of experiences with respect to color. It was green all last year in deep shade, it only turned reddish purple when she stuck hers in the sun. It seems to be turning green again now that she has stuck it back in the deep shade spot. I guess I'll find out for myself though later this month when our patio starts getting a lot of afternoon sun. I'm hoping it doesn't burn. >.>

No,they actually are counter intuitive..this form is darker in light shade then in full summer sun. Cold weather will redden the leaves a fiery color.
Ask Palm Bob,I think he wrote the same about this type of E.trigona.
