I simply packed local perennial purchases in my carry on and carried them home from Austin to my local airport.

I remember going to Greece one year for a holiday and they had some big barrel cactus for sale in the departure lounge of the airport. As we had some spare cash with us I decided to buy it but how do we get it back to England? As the plane was nowhere near full it got a window seat next to me for the journey back. Talk about specialist treatment.

Did u go thru security with it

I went through security but I must add it was at 20 years ago when security wasn't the most foremost thing in peoples minds.When I said Greece, it was a small Greek island called Zakynthos

I don't risk traveling with plants since security is so intense these days; I mail things home to myself instead, and never had any issues.

I agree with mailing. I am going to florida next week for a trip and I fully intend on seeing plants I must have. So in the mail they go, back to Texas!
