jade propagation in gritty mix

Is gritty mix ok to use to propagate my jade clippings?

I clipped some of my jades and now have small stems with leaves on them.(about 2" in height) I let them sit out for a day and scab over. ( I assumed this was correct) The leaves are starting to dry out, and the ends are dry(scabbed). I thought it was weird to let them sit out as I figured the leaves would dry out. Any clarity on this?

Can I now take them and put them in the gritty mix?

I assume I will just submerged them about a quarter to half inch into the gritty and prop them up with a rock.

Should I water immediately ?

I use the gritty mix to root cuttings. I water when they show growth.

Whip, the cuttings are already drying out.

If I just stick them in the gritty mix without any water, won't they just shrivel up completely.

Some of the leaves on the cuttings already fell off and the stems are starting to shrivel up the stem.

If the cuttings don't have roots, watering will not help. The good news is using the gritty mix reduces the chance of rot, so watering too soon isn't that big of a deal.
Once the cuttings are in a medium, they should start putting out roots.
