Can this aloe be saved?

Found this in a corner at a big box store. Not sure if it was dropped or if the detachment was due to over watering. There are a few leaves at the base that are toast, but the rest look pretty happy. What can be done for him? Can you bring back an aloe that is detached from the root ball?

Looks more like a Gasteria, (relative to Aloe). Yes, it looks like stem tissue and leaves will let you reroot it. Sit it slightly into POROUS soil (easiest is to cut filtered C&S social with 50% perlite/pumice) and leave in a warm, semi-sunny place. Mist every few days and it will be growing roots in a month. Remove the dead stuff first before you repot.
