how to deal with overgrown aloe

I bought a small overgrown aloe - leaves on ends but 4-5 inches of bare stem - the other day. Paid way too much for it too, but a rare one for where I live. Not for the rest of you I can assure you LOL.

My question: do I cut and try to root, or repot (it's poorly, but not overpotted), and hope for future pups? I've always had success achieving pups, although maybe not at this time of year...

Thoughts and wisdom?

I thing it might be an aloe 'Sophie'...looks very much like it.

Can you get a photo?Some aloes develop a stalk and then later develop pups of the stem. Other aloes grow a trunk. That is what they do. Or it might mean that it needs more sun . I would not believe the hardiness rating that DG gived it . It says it is hardy to -45, a Zone 2 aloe. Now that's a laugh and a half. I have no experience with this aloe but this is not believable.
