Penny, simple answer, yes. Better answer: no. Sonce it is your plant and you may do as you wish, you can replant deeper or behead the plant about 3" below the head. Allow to callus for a week to 10 days depending on stem diameter and replant. Water VERY sparingly until it "stays" in the pot when a gentle tug is applied. The remaining base may grow pups which can be removed when large enough. I personally opt for plan #2 because you don't need a bigger pot, you have offsets to trade and you plant looks nicer... again your plant your call. This is Echeveria Afterglow which was beheaded in early May of this year (I have two of them). Next summer the offsets will be removed and potted up.

Thanks for the advice. I've finally got my garden back in shape after nearly killing everything off. So, I'm trying to pay attention to the plants that are doing well and to keep from killing off any more.

I usually do beheading, and have good success usually. However, I seem to have poor success with leaf cuttings when trying to propagate. I have a Cante that I don't want to kill and can't seem to propagate by leaf cuttings. I was thinking about not beheading it, instead just add more dirt. I've been having the same problem with Lola, so maybe I'll behead her first and see how successful I am.
