If it was growing alone, I would say it was a sempervivum.

I'm pretty sure it's a crassulaceae. Those leaves growing out of it are throwing me off though.

I should note that the new foliage has tiny yellow flowers at each tip and the leaves open and close with the sun.

Your "weed" is indeed a weed, at least where I live in zone 5. It is also a succulent that some people may want to grow. It is a type of purslane and definitely NOT a part of the rosette plant, which looks to be a sempervivum aka Hen and Chicks.

Yes yes yes! As Nancy said, it is a weed. It is everywhere in Florida - even in the dirty grout lines on my sun deck.

You must get all the roots or it will come back on you. I would try to dig it up so it doesn't return. I have those with little yellow flowers sprouting up all summer long.

My HD sold a more ornamental purslane with peach colored flowers that I put in a pot. It looked nice, but now I cannot get rid of it! Knowing what you are buying is really important.

Edit - I meant the comment about knowing what you are buying to refer to ME, not you. It's a hitch hiker that you don't want, not an error in your judgement!

Yup. That's it. I'm so glad it's not a part of the plant because I don't like it much. I will get rid of it tomorrow, but I can't dig it up and get the whole root structure since it is growing from within the leaves of the HnC itself. I may be in for a long battle. I assume if I keep it from producing leaves it will starve out the root structure eventually.

Just dig up everything and untangle the roots. Hens and chicks are pretty tough and should be able to take it! :)
