Epiphyllum growth help

I purchased this epiphyllum in the end of June 2009 from a reputable local nursery. They have a large cactus/succulent greenhouse. This epi was hanging in the greenhouse. It looked as it does in the photo below minus the "thin stems" growing from the end of each flattened stem.

I brought it home and placed it in a room with a west window. Below the epi is a Chinese Evergreen that thrives. Sun is from the afternoon to sunset. The sun is strong enough there that an epi I mistakenly left outside that window earlier this year sunburned.

Within a week, the epi started shooting out these thin stems from the end of each flattened stem that was already there. They average 6"; some shorter, some longer. Some perspective: the pot is 11" in diameter.

The color of the plant is still the same.

Is it just doing great or not enough light? Will each of the those "stems" flatten out? Every original stem now has one of these on it.

Thanks.

Charles

Follow-up: The marker in the epi said "stuck 4/23/08" and "Hops Pink".

I'm kinda stuck on the "stuck 4/23/08 and I found no listing for a epie called Hops pink, can I see a close up of the leaves it looks like it might be in the Rhipsalis family, your pot is the right size for the plant, but its reaching for more light, your new growth might flatten out with more light, you can lower the plant so its not so high, if the new growth doesn't flatten out you can all ways remove them and start a new plant.you might want to check back were you got it and ask about the tag and what it means.
I wish I could be more help.

I assumed "stuck" was when they stuck some clippings in the pot for rooting.

See link below for close-up.

Thanks.

Lepismium, not an epi. L. houlletianum maybe?

RE:oops

I should have looked at the second picture, Nopalxochia phyllanthoides aka Deutsche Kaiserin aka German Empress.

Thank you for providing the type.

I think your plant just needs a lot more light. If you have it indoors, glass actually cuts down the intensity of the light quite a bit. Epi hybrids will burn in full sun, so it doesn't surprise me that the one you left outdoors burned.

I would make sure that if you have the plant indoors, that it's close enough to the glass to be hit directly by the sunlight coming through the window. I have epis in south-facing windows where they get hit with a lot of light, and they do quite well, only burning if they are not adequately hydrated. If I put them in full sun, I imagine they would burn.

I moved it to the south window, in the window. Should I cut off the thin stems or see if they flatten?

I would cut them off. BTW, take the ID with a pinch of salt, the enormous number of hybrids makes it nearly impossible to identify a plant like this with certainty from a photo, especially when there are no flowers.

When I take and put mine out side in the Spring. I put it in the shade first for a couple of weeks and then I put it in full sun. It does great. Water really well. Try Penningtons all purpose fertilizer.
