It seems to be a goner. I suspect root rot from soil that did not dry out fast enough - it has happened to me in the past. When you buy one, it's a good idea to repot it - a good mixture would be 2 parts good potting soil to 1 part perlite. If it's in bud, wait about repotting until blooming is finished.

Thank you! That is what I was thinking but wanted to double check. She had just taken cuttings of it to start a new plant and its growing good. Just not such good news on the mother plant. I do repot mine after they bloom and ill pass on info to her. Thanks again.

That soil is way too black, too rich , no drainage.

You can try putting the whole plant in a clear plastic bag and seal the top. If the soil is dry, just spray mist the plant. Keep it in bright, indirect light.

I agree with patty. Some of the plant might be saved if it goes into triage.

CCs are so desirable, I'd go for it!

I agree, the soil is WAY too thick. I use orchid bark now for my Thanksgiving cactus and I'll wager it would be fine for real Christmas cactus as well.

Thanks everyone! I told her to try putting it in a bag. And no water just mist. She is 82! She's never heard of orchid bark lol! I repotted her Hoyas in orchid bark and perilite. She has grown clivia and CC for years in straight soil! I promised to bring her a bag of bark and perilite next week. Thanks for the help! She can only try, it may save some of it!
