Stop watering for a bit and see if it's continuing to soften up. FWIW, it looks like a surface injury - as long as it doesn't start to rot/ooze, I think you're OK.

Oops...just watered bcuz the leaves are limp....and didn't see your post. I think the previous owner cut a branch off before I got it. It's the only area that keeps softening around it. When I water, I try not to hit it however like I said it is soft not only in the middle but slightly above it as well :(

But what is that dark spot about a half-inch below?
If you press on that spot, is it soft?

Ummm....that was my OCD kicking in so I scraped it with my nail to see if it was rotten..haha...I was hoping nobody wld notice :) ok...so I'm assuming I shldnt have to worry about that area, right?

Why is it so dark? Was it green inside when you scraped it?
