While not having built an inventive plant stand or sweet potting bench, I did take sifting top dressing into the 21st century with this without-a-doubt-my-best-7/16"-hole-size screen. This is a milled aluminum grid (filter?) plate purchased for $5.50 from Kamloops' only scrapyard, which also has 5000-gallon boilers cut in half (great planters, eh?). I did stay a little old-school, however, by using slotted screws, rather than the superior Robertson-headed screw which is endemic here (and also is a Canadian invention). With those babies you can unleash your fastener joy with almost no chance of slippage.

Very cool sifter and much better than what I use... won't even go there! Do you purchase the aluminum with the holes?

You weren't kidding about those Albuca. I wonder if my A. namaquensis will do that, and how long it takes... The roots on mine are about as wide as a golf ball.

Thanks, but it was born and milled that way. I don't think even I would have the patience (I certainly don't have the needed multibit drill press) to make it as holey as it is. They had two pieces about that size, and one which was at least 1m long, which made it too long for my purpose.

It will be, won't it? I've picked up a smattering of Portuguese, listening to a lot of Carlos Jobim, and that was one I knew (it's one of my favourites anyway - bossa nova happy dance song).

Grate Face - man, I'm going to have to filter your puns from now on. The Albucas are crazy growers for being fleshy bulbs - one can definitely (and did) underestimate them.
