ID October blooming succulent

Plant stems are 6"-8" long but they may get longer if they are out of the pot. The flower pods are 5"-7" across and up to 9" long. They are very lightweight pods that 'pop' open all the sudden - within an hour or so. The 5 petals of the pod peel back to show a pink interior with pollen and stamen. Then they curl and dry up and die.

Stapelia for sure~ And judging by the ginormous size of bud, it should be a Stapelia gigantea. Did they smell revolting?

Not sure about the smell but it doesn't make you feel like gagging. I'll come back with more info about the smell after they open.

This could be your plant, Stapelia gigantea. And, I'm sorry to differ with you, BUT IT SMELLS AWFUL!!!!

Fantastic photo, bikerdoc. It's such a perfect month for this type flower to bloom, creepy Halloween.

One of our blossoms opened today, blurry photo below. Yes, it smells like a dead cat, one that died a long time ago in a warm, enclosed environment!

This must be stapelia gigantea as mentioned,.
