If the leaf that had fallen off was not healthy then it would not propagate, develop roots. Make sure the leaves are plump, healthy and not discolored in anyway. But other than that it sounds like you did the right things. Also not to much direct sun when trying to propagate. At least this has been my experience here in the midwest.

This is what the end of a leaf you want to root should look like after you remove it. Only use leaves that are the same color as the parent plant and firm as has been mentioned. After several days of callousing, some people just lay the leave on top of their mix while others bury the end in the mix; I usually use the bury method.

Looking at the color of your leaf and not seeing the end, I can't say for certain but I doubt it will root. You've got lots of leaves on the parent plant, so go ahead and remove two or three and experiment... certainly won't hurt the plant!!!

It takes a little while for any noticeable root development, usually 2 days dry time is good. I let my leaves dry in a clean, dry terracotta dish. No water and no soil. Then I place them on dry cactus soil mix with alot of pumice mixed in. They don't get a spritz of water until i see roots. Fungus is usually the culprit of leaves turning to mush, so make sure the leaf end is dry and calloused over so as to not let fungal spores in :) Do your pots have drainage holes?

okay! And yes they do, but i do have a few without. I'll just fill the bottom of those with stones :)
