I would chop it right where that bare spot between leaves is, and remove up to four of the bottom leaves from the part you cut off. Let that bare stem callous for a few days. Then bury the stem in completely DRY 50/50 cactus soil/perlite mix. Wait about a week, then water a little once a week until it starts showing new growth (maybe about a month?).

As for the original plant, I'd cut back 3-4 leaves and see what the smaller sprouts do.
