It's not the depth that's at issue - it's the width. Both are mat-like groundcover type stonecrops and do not need much soil depth. In fact, bits that break off of plants at my nursery will root in just the gravel under the tables :-) But they do like to spread.

If planting in a container, I like wide, shallow ones like bulb pans or what are sometimes referred to as azalea pots. Or any wide, shallow, dished container will do. Deeper pots are fine but not at all a requirement.
