Cutting off the top of potted Alluaudia procera

19.5" tall. 6 to 7" high the stem is kinda dead (this would be were it first started to grow for me I believe), but above it the plant is still alive.
Should I cut the top off at 6"?
The plant is outside in the summer, will be inside for the winter, cut now or in the spring?
Or just leave alone and plant will do whatever it needs to do?
