Help with my Old Man Cactus :-(

I've had my old man cactus for over 30 years...had it in a pot..today my dog destroyed the roots but the cactus itself is okay...Is there any way to save it...I'm really sad about this. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Pictures would be a help. I think it is savable hypothetically sight unseen. I would take it out of the soil and let the roots callous and then repot or replant it in a week. I would protect it from water for awhile afterwards. If it is in a pot, it would be a good time to replace the soil. Don't water it. The cactus should reroot. I would love to see your 30yr old cactus. Is it a clump ? or a gangling colony or a solitary column?

I would imagine that you have lots more experience with cactus than me if you have managed to care fore your ol man for 30 yrs. My old man is only a pre-teen, barely getting any lip hair.
