It sounds like underwatering to me. If you have a free draining soil (one that doesn't hold water for too long), you will water more frequently, that is to be expected.

I've now given it a good watering and I guess it will start to look a bit healthier in a few days if underwatering was the only problem. Iôm keeping my fingers crossed!

There's a way I can tell when mine needs a drink. I don't know it's extreme, but I can tell how hard the leaves feel when still plump versus when it needs a drink. If you take a leaf between two fingers, lightly press and it feels hard, it's good. If it gives a little bit, it needs a drink. Try allowing it to dry for awhile, do the "press test," water it, and try again the next day. You should be able to tell the difference in the hardness of the leaf.

Sounds silly, but mine is in a teeny pot being squished (well, resting) between two rocks for support so I can't tell when the potting mix looks dry.

That's a good way to tell when it needs water. I do that as well.
