| Crassula ovata can be a number of different colours, given variables in amount of sun, location, water, heat and food - if your Crassula is grown with lots of sun and little water, it will redden tremendously. The yellow you speak of is probably a variegated plant - Crassula ovata variegata. I think there are two of these, each having different variegation (green and white & green and yellow). If you do a search here using 'jade' you'll find a lot of pictures - the same, but less so, if you use Crassula ovata. There are lots of people here who grow them well. |

Hi Linda, a jade expert I am NOT,lol...but I wonder if it could be a Jade sport (Gollum)? This picture was taken 2 yrs ago. It was this color when I bought it,It doesn't look like this now...I've since pruned it hard and the leaves are starting to come but definitely not this color, its new growths are green...not yellow green. This one turns a little more yellow for me when our weather cools down in conjunction with direct sun. Not saying that the one you're asking about is a gollum...just a possibility? Let us know if you find out what it is?

| Send a picture directly to my email address, Crasulady2@dslextreme. Perhaps I may be of help. Jeff do you think I might be able to help? Norma |

| Norma, I'm going to suggest that you do a search here and learn what you can about jades (just kidding!!!!). Linda, There's a reason Norma is the Crassulady - you've got quite an instruction in store! |

Linda, I also wanted to show you a picture of this Jade on Ebay...could this be the "Red Jade" she is talking about? Its suppose to be named Crassula Coccinea, aka Campfire Jade, Flaming fire jade. This one turns bright red in full sun. I had one...but it died(long story) and it was gorgeous after it turned red! |
Here is a link that might be useful: Flaming Fire Jade...Crassula Coccinea

| Pug, TTBOMK, there are many Crassulas, from miniature to gigantic, and Crassula coccinea is a lovely one, but it's never going to get the size of Crassula ovata, so calling C.c. a 'Jade' is misleading the intended customer (unintentionally or no). |

| This one does both...depending upon the time of year...! ;)

| pug, i got one of those 'flaming reds' this year. It was gorgeous, then the leaves seemed to come down with a fungus or mold in the fall (first succulents ever to do that.) I cut it back hard, hopefully it will grow back unmarred. |

| Josh, nice Jades!! Hi blutarksi, they really are beautiful when they turn that gorgeous red! I hope yours does better than mine. I'm still up in the air whether I want to get another one or not? Good luck with yours. |

| That wine colored "Jade" I would think that may be 'Ruby' mine is. I have mine growing on the West wall but it has never turned that red, just too much water from the sprinklers. I can't move it because it is in a heavy clay pot, Jeff when you get here, will you please move it for me? The only yellow one that I have ever seen is from Denver, Denise has one that is a first place winner at any plant competition. Lack of fertilizer may do it. The green and whites and the cream and green, are two different forms. I have both. If I could afford it I would send a collection to each of you. Check out the Crassula book by Gordon Rowley, I baited him into writing that book. Norma |
