E. Greenwayii watering?

| My E. Greenwayii has three segments to it (one of which is tiny and just started growing about a week a go). I noticed that the middle segment is getting kind of wrinkly. Is this from a lack of water? Or do they just get like that this time of year?
I know I'm probably being annoying but I'd rather ask too many questions than rot something out. |

| I don't mind that you ask questions, But to my knowledge, your plant may be going dorment. If it is don't water it, until you see new growth, I am guessing that it is a Euphorbia, and not another species. It must be kept warm during the winter, the weather settle in during the spring months, here it would be April 15 no frost at that time of the year. Then when you know it is safe, and growing water and fertilize. All locations are different, and soil, pots heat, air. So use your judgement. Norma |

| Can you pls say what the "E." stands for -- if that's Euphorbia, Echevaria or what? |

| Mine acts more like a winter grower than a summer grower. It is putting on some new growth right now, which seems to be the same growing schedule as yours. In my experience, it is a pretty finicky plant, and the more I pay attention to it, the worse it does... As for water, have you been giving it any recently? If not, the wrinkling/shrinking might be from lack of water. If you *have* been watering it lately, I would be concerned it is already rotting. In my experience, this plant is very sensitive to water, and generally prefers to be kept pretty dry. Is there any discoloration associated with the wrinkling? How quickly are they shriveling? I have also found this species to be *wildly* prone to sunburn. If I increase the amount of sun it gets without a very prolonged period of acclimation, it burns, discolors, and often kills the badly burned branches. Its really a shame too since the attractive colors and patterns are what make this species so interesting to begin with. Lastly, if you care, there is only one "i" at the end of greenwayi... |

| "As for water, have you been giving it any recently?" Nope, and it IS actively growing. I'll give it some water when I get back up there... Sunday? It didn't seem badly dessicated or anything, and it probably just did this. The soil it's in is pretty light, gravelly stuff, too. "Lastly, if you care, there is only one "i" at the end of greenwayi..." Makes sense. I was going off the little plastic tab in it, which had the species name written out by hand. |
