A great plant for SouCa, but you might have to protect younger plants when it's cold (they're a little cold-sensitive). Once established they're virtually plant-and-forget plants, achieving a leafy columness in a few years and getting to be giants if some additional (spring/summer/fall) water and some fertilizer are given.

Along with Alluaudia procera, Alluaudia ascendans is a wonderful plant. Heck, all of the Alluaudias are good growers there, and that's not even considering the Didierias (cousin plants).

They also root fairly easily from cuttings, but that's a subject for another time.

Well, having grown this plant in San Diego, along with seeing thickets of it in that area (and pruning same), I felt the same, especially since it was -10C today for a high. I've always enjoyed all of the Allus, as you can tell from my comment, and hope that you grow them many and well.
