Jade Tree Mutilation

I thought I would share the results of some recent Jade trimming madness. I get out the pruners, one branch leads to another, and before you know it, there is almost nothing left. Perfect. :)

As you can see, there is nothing wrong with cutting off All the branches and all the leaves. It looks a little funny for a while, but these things just won't die, and just keep getting thicker and thicker every year. ;)

Nice work! The thick trunk really gives a Jade some character!

Hi Brad,
How many times a year should you do this to get a thicker trunk?

And can this be done on any jade?
I just got a variagated/Tricolor I want to work on.

I also have one called crassula platyphlla burgundy.

Nice mutilation, Brad!
I know how it can be, once you get going....I just whacked back a Port. afra the other day.

Jojo, I think you can selectively prune a Jade as often as you want. If you whack a Jade back
to a stump, it will take a couple months to re-leaf - but you can start pinching or pruning off
the new growth immediately, if it doesn't suit your plan for the Jade. I like to pluck leaves and
prune branches throughout the year, so that I always have some small, new growth emerging.

Great Josh..

With all these crazy plants and "rest" periods, I don't want to ruin something. :)

The new growth is so bright and pretty!

Brad...great job!! Nice Jades...

Can I ask you where you got the clay pot on the second pic from the left? I like it...its a little different than the traditional clay pot that I buy, which is the only design that is available in all the stores in my area. Thanks!
