Very pretty flowers. Could just be the picture but it looks more peach color then yellow to me.

They are both just lovely!! I love the yellow one, only because it seems to be harder to find. Thanks for sharing them!

I just picked up one this afternoon at Lowe's that appears to be an orangish color. I've had a pink one for almost 6 years and got a white one last year. Both are loaded with buds and should be pretty for Thanksgiving. Would love to find a yellow one.

I got my yellow one at Wal Mart. There were only 2 on the shelves. As soon as I saw it I knew I had to have one, Since I had heard there rare. Glad I did, Still interesting how that one happened to be the 1st one that blooms.

Nice! I have a white, salmon, red, fuschia, and lavender, but no yellow. I'll have to keep an eye out for it.

Are there any other colors?

RE: Thanksgiving Cactus Flower Photos.

Hi Blutarski, I'm sure Lots more...but Purple, Orange, Peach, different shades of Pink...

Here's a variety names and colors from Whitton's Nursery, click on the name to see what it looks like. Although since its a picture, true colors will be different in person I'm sure...

Here is a link that might be useful: Whitton's Greenhouse Retail Varieties...

Hosta, all of your pictures are just beautiful...I love them all! I especially love your CC ...what color would you say it is ? Sometimes its hard to tell from pictures...but it sure is pretty!

Just out of curiosity what potting mix are you using?

Thanks so much for sharing...I've enjoyed looking at them!

 o
RE: Thanksgiving Cactus Flower Photos.

Thanks! The Christmas Cactus is Pink, almost a Hot Pink color.

I'm using normal potting mix, I just used standard Miracle-Gro soil, But the Yellow one has some problems keeping moist too long, so I repotted that in Cactus soil.

Thanks Again, Yes I really enjoyed how this turned out. This is my first season with these and my 1st blooms actually grown by myself, without the store.

RE: Thanksgiving Cactus Flower Photos.

As I thought, your "Christmas Cactus" is one of the old clones that is something between a CC and a TC. The "teeth" are very small compared to the modern TC (but they are there), and the flowers are more TC-like (CC flowers are almost symmetrical and always pendant).
Seems to be a pretty clone with an unusually intense color, if the photo makes it justice.

RE: Thanksgiving Cactus Flower Photos.

I'm thrilled I found a yellow TC at Lowe's. It appears to be somewhat paler in color than hostalover's, but with some TLC next year perhaps the color will be more intense. As soon as the blooms are finished, both plants I have bought will need to be repotted into different soil. I'm hoping the orangey one I bought won't rot before then. Hostalover, your photos are fabulous.

RE: Thanksgiving Cactus Flower Photos.

Thanks Tjicken. I knew the plant was old and the small teeth confused me of it being a True Christmas Cactus. I would believe you when you say it's an old cross.

bama gardener, I noticed the same thing, When I bought my Yellow one with flowers the flowers were paler then they are this year!

Thanks please continue to view this post in the upcoming days becuase I will have more Cacus that will open! I have 4 left to flower out of my 7, one is supposed to be White. This other one I was unknown of the color becuase the buds fell off before blooming last year, It looks as though it will be peach colored! the 3rd one is a Pink Thanksgiving Cactus. and the 4th is some Yellow colored cuttings I took last year!

RE: Thanksgiving Cactus Flower Photos.

Hi Hostalover...I hope you don't mind but I've posted a pic of my TC...I've been looking for a yellow one for a while and finally found one! This morning I found this bloom opened! Just wanted to share :o)

RE: Thanksgiving Cactus Flower Photos.

Wow Pug, that's just gorgeous!!!!!!! Nothing like eye candy first thing in the morning w/ my coffee -- what a treat, TFS!

FYI: When it comes up to repot you might want to switch to plastic pots rather than terra cotta. In your hot climate, it would help them conserve water I think, tho' I have heard/read that terra cotta can help keep the roots cool. Still, I'm guessing since you're in FLA, you have this in shade or at least bright indirect, so I'm guessing conserving its water may be more relevant than keeping it cool. FWIW

Such a dainty, pretty, color!

RE: Thanksgiving Cactus Flower Photos.

Thank you PG... I just love the color also. I will def. keep that in mind and will see how fast the soil dries out this spring. I lost mine to root rot last year, so I thought I would try growing them in clay pot this time. But if I see its drying out too fast I will switch them to plastic pots, thanks for the advise :o)

RE: Thanksgiving Cactus Flower Photos.

Of course I don't mind! Thats a very pretty flower! I've got 2 more plants which I'm hoping will be opened tomorrow!
