i would think.. the wholesale greenhouse used what is good for their greenhouse ... and it might not be best in your house ..

but i am thinking.. you can do a whole lot better ...

They are fungal hyphae, and means fungus is growing on your overly-wet soil. I'd get your plant out of that ASAP and into a nice fast-draining mix. Check the ends of the stems are not black and mushy. If they are, cut it off and let the ends dry out for a few days before repotting.

I think the word Ken is looking for is 'mycorrhizae', which are fungi which grow in a beneficial association with plant roots , but that is not what is this is...

The plant is a Sedum rubrotinctum. Save those leaves that fall off. They sprout very easily and give you new plants - with or without soil. Toss them on top of the soil when you repot and let them do their thing.

I'm in soggy SW Florida, so I use a gritty mix for everything. You can also use C&S soil cut with perlite. Your plants will appreciate new soil.
