Well, I have not tried to grow gigas specifically from seed, but I have grown other species of dorstenia from seed quite easily. In fact, volunteers pop up in my other plants' pots all the time. Basically, I did not do anything special, they just grow under basic conditions. I do not know, however, if that would be true for gigas.

As Tom has said, they grow everywhere! I have them growing on the floor of the greenhouse, in the orchid pots and well, you get the picture. Interestingly, when I "collect" the seed as I do for my Euphorbia and plant them, they don't germinate! Not sure why this is, because I plant them within days of "popping" from the hypanthodium.

Just got a gigas. At the chance you come across this message...did your seeds ever develop? I know this is a long shot but finding anything on this rare plant is not easy. Love to hear from anyone.

Euphorbia Francoisii seeds germinate within 2 days.

Today, i repot it to a proper cell tray. Total 3 sprouts out of 4 seeds. The euphorbia are the darker green ones. Center one growing true leaves...

The seeds are from my own plants.

I'm not sure but you may need 2 plants to produce seed on gigas. Ray at Tropiflora (Sarasota FL) has worked with this plant quite a bit you could call him. I don't think he gets on the forum.

Just talking to a friend today about his gigas. He has 3 all about 18" and no flowers yet.

Some say not easy to see D gigas flower. That's the reason D Gigas cost much more.
