RE: Pic of Jade bloom '09

| well, being out here in Pa, will probably not ever seem mine bloom...I'd be happy to get some that are bush sized. |
RE: Pic of Jade bloom '09

| Blutarski, Yours will eventually bloom, it just will take longer for it to reach maturity than in other areas of the country. |
RE: Pic of Jade bloom '09

| John how big and how old is your plant? Very nice pic! Mary |
RE: Pic of Jade bloom '09

| If I remember right, I got it as a gift about 10 years ago. It lost about 1/2 it's size last winter in a surprise overnight freeze. Weatherman said it was gonna be 35...it got down to 25! Her's a pic of it last week.
This is all this years growth. |

| John, Great shots, my man. Is this Crassula ovata cultivar's name 'Hummel's Sunset'? The reason I ask is because the flowers have red/pink in them, as opposed to the 'regular' C. ovata's flowers being white. TFS. |
RE: Pic of Jade bloom '09
| | |
| Not sure of the name. My wife got it for me quite a while ago and it wasn't tagged...are there other cultivars that have pink blooms? |
RE: Pic of Jade bloom '09

| Hi All, Gorgeous blooms, so very pretty & those dark red centers are excellent, amzingly vibrant color (frankly, it's reminiscent of Hoyas' bloom centers). Excellent photos too --Wow! Thanks for asking that Jeff, I was wondering the very same thing, remembering the bloom on yours was always pure white. |

| John, I tried to send you an email via your page on GW, but that was a no-go. I've a favour to ask and you can probably guess it in one, but could you PM me from my 'My Page' option? Beggar Jeff |

| John, those pictures of the blooms are AMAZING!! I love the colors, so very pretty. I am also very interested to find out what variety of Jade this is? If it was a Hummel sunset wouldn't the leaves have more yellows and reds this time of year? Just wondering how and where you grow this one to get such beautiful flowers. Thanks so much for posting! |
RE: Pic of Jade bloom '09...link
| | |
| Okay, right after I posted I found a link that says there is a variety called "Pink Jade" that has pink blooms, apparently it isn't Hummel sunset. John, maybe that is the variety you have...very pretty!! |
Here is a link that might be useful: Pink Jade

| Linda, Thanks for asking - I knew not that there were so many varieties. The reason I'm asking is that someone on my side of the border has asked for C. o. cv. 'Hummel's Sunset' and I don't have a certainty of what it is (that is, I don't recall growing it myself but do have a picture of it). John's plant, named or not, is pretty enough to grow the heck out of- those flowers sure beat C. o. cv. 'Regularrrrr', as previously referred to and as seen below:

| Thanks for the update pics, John! What a show! I had a feeling (from the first pics posted) that this wasn't just an ordinary, garden variety Jade... ;) Josh |
RE: Pic of Jade bloom '09
| | |
| Cactusmharris, no problem(I'm Nancy) unless you weren't addressing me? I agree with you, I LOVE the pink flowers so much more. Not that the white blooms are a wall flower...but the pink ones are to die for(figuratively speaking of course! |
RE: Pic of Jade bloom '09
| | |
| Nancy, I was addressing you and agree wholeheartedly. |
RE: Pic of Jade bloom '09
| | |
| I have one called "Pacific Pink". That's what was on the label from the nursery anyway. Too young to have flowered yet but after googling around I jotted down the name "crassula ovata rubiflora" as the variety having pink flowers. If mine ever flowers I'll be sure to post a picture. John, thanks for posting those pix! Really makes me anxious to see mine bloom someday. |
RE: Pic of Jade bloom '09
| | |
| Airedalemom, definitely looking forward to seeing your pacific pink jade bloom, hopefully soon . You have some very nice Jades. |
RE: Pic of Jade bloom '09
| | |
| Hi puglvr! Did that pacific pink cutting take root yet? |
RE: Pic of Jade bloom '09
| | |
| Hi airedale4mom, it is w/out a doubt the slowest rooting cutting I've ever seen,lol...but I think its because we've had unseasonably cold/cool winter so far, so its really taking its time, but the good news is the cutting is still alive and I think it might even have the tiniest of root starting? Keep your fingers crossed for me. Thanks! |
RE: Pic of Jade bloom '09
| | |
| Nancy, Are you heating its bottom in times of coolness? |
RE: Pic of Jade bloom '09
| | |
| Hi cactusmcharris, I finally moved it inside in my FL room(had it outside most of the time, until I read one of your post to keep the cutting warm, thanks for that)The temps inside that room are usually bet. 65°-75° degrees during the day. I have no way of heating the bottom of it :o( But our warm weather is just around the corner, we will be consistently in the mid to upper 70's in about 2-3 weeks. |
RE: Pic of Jade bloom '09
| | |
| John, how long does your blooms last? I had always wondered if they last for a few days or weeks? After I did a little more research...do you think that John's Jade might be Crassula Argentea? Picture below...its also called Pink Jade. |

RE: Pic of Jade bloom '09
| | |
| Hi puglvr...they usually last at least a month. I think the cool, moist air helps. I looked at the pic and the flowers seem a bit paler than mine. |
RE: Pic of Jade bloom '09
| | |
| Thanks John, I agree your blooms are much darker than that picture, plus the hints of lavender on yours is really pretty! |
