Plant Show

We went to our first Cactus and Plant Show today. It was a small show hosted by the Orange County, CA, society and it was well worth our time. I was glad that I had learned a little about these plants before going as it helped me choose my purchases more wisely. I was able to avoid plants that were grown in fine sand, or, my pet peeve, no labels. There were some great pots for sale too. Took a couple of photos. Not sure of the spelling as I could not read the handwriting very well, so I've probably massacred the spelling, but did the best I could.

abromelttella brevifolia???

Penny,

What some beautiful specimen that you have taken photos of. It makes one wonder how many years old these plants are. Thank you for taking the time to share your photos.

Penny,

I'm happy for you getting to go to your first show - it's good to see what plants can be, eh? Pretty soon I expect to see a few blue ribbons from you.

What did you get? Probably the subject of another post. Did you meet any of our colleagues?

The San Diego Shows are in February and June, btw.

You got most of them...although, and this is enough to drive me crazy....Abromeitiella brevifolia is now considered a member of Deuterocohnia, so it's properly D. brevifolia. Awesome plant!

You can have a real appreciation of Mamm. pdlr. when you see what it looks like in habitat - the grower staged it perfectly.

Wait, that's not the one. This is it (thanks, Alex!)

Gosh, Jeff, I think that bird might be what's attacking Kiwi, but then, again, maybe not...

I did buy two pots. One gorgeous pot I was too lazy to carry around to the other side of the table while I was looking, and this woman ran up and SNATCHED it off the table and ran off with it. She actually got it as a gift for her mil and put a gorgeous plant in it and I had to laugh and bought a couple of other equally lovely pots.

My big purchase was two agaves. We are remodeling the house and the stonemason put in three pillars as we are fencing in the front yard for the dogs. I put these lovely blue balls on the top of the pillers. No care no worry.

For some reason my husband did not like them, so I moved them. We got two pots and bought two agavas. First is Blue Flame and was big enough to go right in the pots.

And we also bought Blue Glow that was a smaller size just in case we didn't like the other one.

All the sellers there knew each other from the Society they all belonged to. I asked everyone if they had a Red Horned Jade and no one had even heard of it. So I wondered if I had the name wrong. They have their meeting the same day the dogs go sheep herding so I don't know if I'll get to their meetings, but who knows.

I was there Saturday, too. It was a really small show, but they had some lovely plants. I bought a new pot for my Bursera.
