First one is an etiolated cactus, the second one looks Euphorbia-ish.

thanks Dzitmoidonc - I guess I was under the impression that etiolation happens irregularly. In this plant the growth seems to be very regular - though admittedly in the etiolated fashion. Ah well - One lives and learns - I guess.

Thanks for the ID on the Euphorbia. On pricking it - sap does some out - so does seem to be an Euphorbia.
