Curly Locks Epiphyllum seeds

seedmoney

Greetings,
Anybody want some freshly harvested seeds of 'Curly Locks' Epiphyllum (Epiphyllum guatemalense f. monstrosa)? I'm getting 97% germination when sown at 70F in high humidity. Each seed packet will contain 50 bubble-wrapped seeds and will require two stamps. Post here if interested.
Regards,
seedmoney

    I'd be interested as well!
    My email is linked!

I have a terrible track record with seeds, especially cacti!

If your interested I'd prefer to trade you a few cuttings of my plants for a few cuttings of your mother plant, if that's possible...if not ill give the seeds a go!

I had one nice little cut of it, I forgot it in the cold and it froze straight away, no cold tolerance at all, for the record.

    Howard,
Yes! Your plant is the genuine article. It should be labeled Epiphyllum guatemalense f. monstrosa. Mine really took off after I put it in a hanging basket. The rather dull flowers (long, stringy yellow numbers) are self-pollinating and are followed by copious hot pink fruits that make the plant look like Miss Curly Locks forgot to remove her pink foam curlers...

I would love some seeds if there are any still available. I would be fine with just a few seeds since I can only grow so many in my apartment. :-)

Thanks for the instructions. Now is getting chill here, is it ok to start germination or wait til spring?

Thank again for sharing .Happy growing.

These seeds are ephemeral and lose vitality quickly-- I would plant them indoors now--I germinated mine on a windowsill. You may want to grow the seedlings out for a year before placing them outside in their permanent location. Here's a link to the germinated seedlings.

Well, I put in a basket and have it hanging from the peak of the greenhouse. We'll see how it does!

    Howard,
You will not be disappointed--my "mother" plant began life from a cutting given to me by Karyn--and two years later she's huge! IMO the growth spurt can be attributed to :
    1) A move to a hanging basket,
    2) Generous amounts of "Bloom Dam*'it" (9-59-9) fertilizer and,
    3) Summers spent on the east side of the greenhouse

Looking forward to seeing photos of yours next year.
