Yes, you can but it's best to let them be on the mother plant for as long as the mother's healthy. Separate when you're ready to return and root them up. Anytime's OK, but they root best when it's sunny and warm.

How big are the babies in inches? I wait until they are at least 3" tall. I think it would be ok to take them now. Can you get them home in a warm way?

I will take them home in my car. I have a grow light set up at home and I can put them right under it. I know it is probably best to wait til March, but they may not be there come March!

So... I decided to repot the aloe and then decide. Well, good thing I did. It's roots were abysmal. A fairly large aloe, at least 2 feet wide, with about a dozen leaves had a root "ball" about the size of a tennis ball. I put ball in quotes because it was realy just a few roots about 2" in length. And they were so straggly looking. I put it in a bigger pot, with perlite on the bottom 2-3 inches, then 60% perlite and 40% C&S soil. I put the pups in a similar soil & they are coming home with me. I told my mom not to water it for 2-3 weeks. Hopefully she listens.

That should be OK, but the next time you don't want to have different layers in the pot below the growth point - it ideally is all one material. Layering often actually impedes proper drainage.

It was a really deep pot so I was concerned. But now that you say that I realize how that is going to effect the water that is held in the soil. Darn it! Do you think I should redo it? The only part that'll be a pain is that I did do some top dressing.

It's probably not a big deal, since the perlite is a component of the mix, but the obsessive/compulsive in me suggests that you redo it.
