and what does the famous apron look like, cactusmcharris?

  • rosemariero

Yes, I received your msg from xw in email, Gail. I plan to be there at 10 as well. Will be looking for you! :D I will likely have a camera in front of my face at all times (like the photo Jeff provided above). I always "want" lots of plants, but I'm on overload & have to be a "good girl". Thanks for the offer, though.

I'm curious about Jeff's apron TOO! LOL

Reggie, text me once you're there, okay?

    Ladies and Gents,

The special days are well nigh here, and it's with an increasingly beating heart that I lay me down to rest (having already been in Room 101 today helping out, like the days of yore, just not as much).

    Gail,

If you've got a Agave sebastiana pup or a Pachyphytum hookeri or viride cutting, those would be grown with international joy.

As to the apron, it's been folded and put into tomorrow's bag (with tripod for some serious plant shots - I took RoRo's advice and got a Manfrotto) and will be worn when the Show officially opens, or perhaps a little before. It is extraordinarily lovely in its NWCness and the tailoring is to a T - you'll see this tomorrow!

Some SDCSS members are going to be there for an 8 start for Show work, and though the Show officially opens at 10, I'd think it'll be open before then, I just don't know when.

Joe, I hope to meet you there - prepare yourself for an astounding day of succulence. I could tell you of some of the plants that will be entered in the Show, and some stunners for sale, too, but that would be spoiling the surprise.

I spent a few hundred dollars on some succulents, big pots, and soil the past few weeks and thus my wife has threatened that she'll divorce me if I spend another penny :)

So, that said, if anyone got any extra succulents (anything from foxtail to echeveria... anything without thorns since we got two little girls) I would love to have. Our new place got a giant ugly slope in the back that I'd love to fill with all kind of succulents.

I'll do my best to be there around 10AM but in case that doesn't work for whatever reason then I'll be there in the afternoon.

Looking forward to meet you fellas and learn something new.

    Joe

Joe, you'll find we're a generous lot, and there are many people you'll meet tomorrow who would gladly give you cuttings, especially in return for home-made baked goods (that's me, mainly). Join the club (it's $15 a year) and you'll meet people who will help fill your gardening space in no time flat.

    All,

Thank you for your interest - I was so interested in talking with friends and associates that I didn't shoot ANY pics at the SHOW with my good camera and tripod, only the little camera, and I'm too lazy to upload those now - they will wait until my return to Canada, if you please.

This, however, is my haul thus far from SouCal, one that your humble reporter will begin packing anon. Some of the plants and all of the Tshirts, pots, and Journals are from the SHOW. It was like 20,000 succulentists showed up, and it may very well have been more.

First, Mr. Kitty and camera strap

    <a href="http://smg.photobucket.com/user/cactusmcharris/media/DSC02473_zpsee6760ce.jpg.html"; target="_blank"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v124/cactusmcharris/th_DSC02473_zpsee6760ce.jpg"; border="0" alt=" photo DSC02473_zpsee6760ce.jpg" style=""></a>

    Then, my pelf thus far

    <a href="http://smg.photobucket.com/user/cactusmcharris/media/DSC03044_zpse0c5d8ff.jpg.html"; target="_blank"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v124/cactusmcharris/DSC03044_zpse0c5d8ff.jpg"; border="0" alt=" photo DSC03044_zpse0c5d8ff.jpg"/></a>

And if you can't see the two pics (I have a feeling we'll see more), please feel free to fix that - I'm not understanding what code they need, as they don't show them in the finished post, only in edit mode.

We also met Gail and Joe - it was a good day!

Spike, as usual I have no idea what you're talking about. I didn't know that you were paranoid, but coherency is also lacking.

ct, yes, me too, especially since I have a filtered summer light situation in mind for them. One of the fellows we visited had bought the entire Gasteria section from the plants of Nature's Curiousity Shop (Shoppe?). I spent a dear amount there but I too am excited about their growth, though plants will likely take a year to get adjusted to the GWN from their previous situation of growing under filtered light in northern inland San Diego County.

I am not seeing any photos. Is there something wrong with me or were they uploaded right. Do HTML codes work. I thought they didn't with this site now.

  • cactusmcharris, interior BC Z4/5

Mara, paste that entire code into your browser and it should work. It's not ideal, but I don't know another way right now.

  • wantonamara Z8 CenTex

It didn't in my browser. Maybe a URL would work better.

  • nomen_nudum

    Glad
you had a great time there and am looking forward to more as they come

    It
is unfortunate that the "forum of the future" has no HTML or URl
compatibility. Duly noted both URL and HTML have a future . Maybe onr day the
newer forum will find a way to the URL HTML future. After all they where
already on the HTML/URL compatible path a few weeks ago. As we are more likely
to hear from the forum of the future on the HTML URL situation "we're working
    on it".

    Until
then it's one pic at a time uploading directly from your folders to the
comments with a limit of 4 - 10 pics per comment, depending on how Houzz and GW
feel that day they might offer , sorry for the inconvenient actions of our
    choices of our convenient forum.

Ah, Nature's Curiousity Shop! I remember looking at that site... I will do so again. Withdrawls, withdrawals from Gasteria purchasing...

Worked so hard to teach Jeff the delicate ways of HTML, and now no HTML.... sigh.

Jeff about all you can do is upload pics via houzz 1 at a time, kind of tedious, and watermarks are in order. Nice to have met you and rm, sorry I missed joe, but we really had to get home--it took hours to wade through all the traffic, but it was a fun day!

Ha ha, on having a WHOLE day after the show to get pix up! Restless natives, indeed! LOL

FABULOUS pix, hoobv (Gail)! I knew you would be one of the first to post, as you seem SO organized! I need to know if it's okay to post pix of you & your hubby here on the forum?

We had plant overload the following day as well, so more pix to process (coming soon, I hope). It was SO great to meet & visit with folks from this forum, as well as some from Facebook (Succulent Fanatics) page. Seeing old friends & learning new made the show ALL the more enjoyable!! We met Gail, Joe & Bill (aloebot). Glad Regina was able to make it after all! Jeff's apron was the cat's meow! What a kick in the pants...pix will be coming! :D

I think this was THE MOST ENJOYABLE show I've been to...meeting & talking with new & old friends. The plants, of course, are a bonus. Plant AND people pix taken...I'd better get to processing them...but today I have to deal with many ruined items in our storage container that had a leak (unaware of it). I'll get to the pix ASAP! Oh...the cartjumpers! I only bought 3 from the show, but a whole bunch the following day. Will share those too. Stay tuned!

    One pic for now:

Balboa Park has gardens, museums over 1200(!) acres--it's like the Central Park of SD. Some of the buildings date to the 1915 Panama-California Exposition and are in the Spanish Colonial style.

I believe you should be able to hover over pix to see larger ones...messing with newer camera, so it's been tricky getting good shots in shade/without flash/focusing, etc. different than my other camera. Sigh!
