Thanksgiving Cactus... erm...bud?

After bringing this TC home it shedded most of its buds, and the rest is done flowering.
Now what is this? I thought it forms a new bud or two as they started as a tiny pink bump, but look like pink mini-leaves?

I just recently purchased two myself. One is keeping most of its buds and they look like they are about to bloom while the other is loosing all the buds. Any idea why that happens?

Sometimes they start off colored like that and then turn to green. I've had several do the same thing.

Those are new leaves. They start out pink, magenta, maroon.

No chance they keep the color? :)

    hi MGF,
New growth is pink at this time of year. There is a colorful sport of Christmas cactus called Schlumbergera aura Cristen (see pic) that is so pretty in spring that you don't care if it blooms or not. But, alas, it matures to a lively chartreuse color and has hot pink blooms.
