It's an Aloe, it would seem, and a remarkable planting!

Is that Impatiens planted on the left? If so, that would give some idea of scale.

It looks like an Aloe I have, which had grown in similar habit ~ but I've yet to ID (haven't tried to ID). Sorry I can't say what it is.

I was in Mexico and saw the plant with hundreds of leaves, so I took a picture.

Missingtheobvious, I do not know anything about the plant on the left, it is photo-bombing the aloe.

Well, that Aloe is well-armed and ought to be able to defend itself.

This is the only photo I can locate at the moment (turned red at the time). It was about to bloom ~that's what I wait for to ID it ~ but never followed up on it ~must've gotten sidetracked!

Hm, I was thinking it was perhaps a Nobilis or a hybrid of... Maybe a Crosby's Prolific like I have, but I don't see any of the tale-tell signs on the leaves for that. The flowers are orange and bell shaped which is very common among aloes. I have seen aloe vera hybrids like this that flower orange.

I have both A. nobilis & 'Crosby's Prolific' & this plant (like the one the OP has shown) has longer, thinner leaves than those two. On mine, the leaves broke easily (brittle) & it is a prolific pupper.

Having a look online, I see many plants like ours that some are calling 'Crosby's Prolific', but they are not the same. I know, no help here. Just musing out loud. Maybe someone else will chime in soon. :)
