I don't think you need cold conditions for it to flower. One friend said hers hadn't bloomed for 6 yrs, yet she has cold winters. It did bloom for her in spring, then a 2nd flush in June. Another friend in Florida (w/ no cold days that winter) had 3 plants blooming in spring.

They are partly from the Lower Rio Grande area of Texas, I think, and it often does not get to freezing down there on most years. mine bloom here in Central Texas. I hope they live through that freeze we just had. I hear conflicting cold limits. Some say 10F and some say 25F. They looked awful right after the freeze (20F and the soil was wet.) but they seem to be looking better today. There are two varieties.Mine made it through a 23 Freeze in dry conditions last year, I killed that one transplanting it in brutal sun, so these are two new plants that I planted in the same spot hoping that the slow sun gain from spring on will harden it for summer, but they have never been cold hardened yet.
