I don't know why it doesn't grow 'up' like the regular one does. The variegated one I have in the ground definitely has the same growth habit as yours - spreading out but not up, unlike its reaching-for-the-sky non-variegated relative.

I have a very small one which is already reaching out, rather than up. I had read somewhere that this is a common trait with the variegated type.

Be happy with this coral shape. I love this plant, I have a smaller one too.
