If they are anything like San Pedro's you should have no problem rooting them the way there are. I would stick them in dry soil mix and forget about them untill spring. Once your other plants start showing growth give them a little water. The roots will burst out and they should show some growth that year. The next year, once they have a good root system, they will just take off.

You could trim off the ragged edges. A 45 degree angle is good due to more surface area for the calus to form. With mine I usually cut off at the joint and let them dry and form a callus in a dry warm shady area for a week or two. Then I plant in cactus mix with added sand and perlite and in a clay pot. The advice about waiting till growth to water is good. Just stick it in the growing medium and it will eventually get new green on top. Then you can give it a little drink.

I have had many successes and MANY failures rooting this plant.

Cut off flat. Let it callus over in a vertical position for a few weeks.

Then plant it in cactus mix by just sitting it atop the soil and holding it upright with large rocks.

If you insert any part of the plant in the soil, it rots VERY easily.
